How to use Simply Soap Nuts

Simply Soap Nuts are the Green Alternative for Laundry,
Organic Gardening and Natural Cleaning

Laundry

Place approximately 6-8 Nut Shells (See Note below) in a pop sock, the foot of an old pair of tights or a small 216211_low05 mesh or cotton laundry bag and add to washing machine with laundry instead of conventional detergent.
The additional use of fabric softener may not be necessary and the absence of bleach will ensure colours remain bright.
After washing, clothes will be completely odourless, but scent may be added by placing a few drops of Essential or Fragrance Oil in the fabric softener compartment of your washing machine.

oilrock02 Simply Soap Nuts can be used up to 3 or 4 times depending on water temperature. Shells will release more soap the first time they’re used (and at higher temperatures), so it is advisable to wash heavily soiled items with a fresh batch of Shells.
Before adding to compost heap, shells can be used to make liquid soap - see below.

To make Liquid Soap

S 723505_low03 immer about half a dozen Soapnuts for five minutes. The amount of water you use doesn’t really matter. Simply use enough water to well cover the shells. If you use nut shells that haven’t been used before you will end up with a fairly “strong” solution. You can dilute the liquid accordingly afterwards. Cool and strain. Alternatively, pour boiling water over Shells and leave to cool. Procedure can be repeated several times before Shells are disposed of on compost heap.

(Dilute with cold water 1:4).
Add a few drops of essential oil for an effective spray-on general surface cleaner.

Add to a spray bottle and attack greenfly and aphids!

Note

The soap contained in the Soapnuts is an entirely natural product and since the shells vary in size and thickness, the quantity of soap extracted with each wash may also vary. For this reason, results may vary too.
Performance may also depend on local hardness/softness of water, levels of soiling of laundry and temperature used. For this reason, the suggested amounts of shells to be used for each wash are guidelines only. A few “trial runs” may be necessary using different quantities and various temperatures.
A distinct lack of lather may be noticeable in all applications. This is quite normal.
